Mellowing Garden, Late Summer

Oil and Cold Wax on Paper
I painted this small painting at the end of summer as my garden began to wilt under the heat of the summer sun. It has a lot of texture due to the addition of cold wax to oil paint which creates a dimensional surface. While non-representational, the colors and shapes suggest a garden setting. Blues, greens and yellows dominate while touches of pink and darker tones create a vivid color palette.

Sunflower Bursts
watercolor
This vibrant and expressive watercolor depicting a cluster of yellow flowers has an overall impressionistic or loose style.
This piece explores a journey of deep relaxation, letting go of the physical world to connect with a deeper spiritual, inner self – the quieting one’s conscious mind and allowing thoughts and awareness to wander freely inward in a calm, meditative drift leading to deeper insights.
In this elevated state of being, where the weight of the world is lifted, one can gain a profound feeling and sense of unity or connection to a universal consciousness, where the ego dissolves into a peaceful, limitless awareness.
Through this act of surrendering to the experience and letting go of control, one can find a key part to one’s spiritual opening and growth.

Every now and then, allow yourself to just be.
Instead of pushing, surrender
and just…
Relax.
Breathe.
Expand.
And allow everything in.
Embrace it.
Allow yourself to receive.
Nurture yourself.
You are deserving.

This vintage Chinese industrial brush (c. 1940s) was originally used in textile factories to clear threads from industrial looms, helping to reduce fire risk. Handmade by loom workers, these brushes were often personalized and sometimes decorated with repurposed socks as creative element. The pink fabric is original to the brush. The textile fibers around the head, skirt, and arms were added by the artist and are from a recycled rug. The head is hand-sculpted in clay and finished with acrylic paint and pastel detailing.
The clay head was inspired by Jizo- a beloved figure in Buddhism who brings us qualities of courage and tenderness.
