“Fragments Of Time” invites the viewer into an exploration of abstract texture and subtle color, conjuring the poetic erosion of memory and history. The application of paint in layered techniques effectively builds visual depth, drawing the eye both across the surface and into its recesses—a strategy that makes the passage of time almost tangible. Sides are painted black.
The visible layering, scratches, and smudges offer a sense of process and history behind the painting, contributing to its organic energy. The scattered maroon and hints of bright orange contrast with the cooler hues, introducing bursts of warmth and visual rhythm that prevent the calm field from becoming static. After a weekend on the Russian River last Summer, I decided to drive home via Hwy 1 and Bodege rather than 101 and Santa Rosa. The summer fog was lingering along the coast as I approached Bodega Bay, and I was moved to stop and capture some scenes.
On a road trip through Idaho last summer, we stopped for a snack and ZAP! – in the distance were the Sawtooth Mountains, perfectly framed by ranch fencing stretching into the distance. The high desert between Nevada and Idaho are full of empty and remote horizons. This horizon was worthy of my camera and my paintbrush!
Going past Deer Park in Fairfax, the trails winding up to Five Corners are full of magical light. As one of my favorite hikes, this scene captures morning light in my favorite setting… through the Bay trees.
A foggy morning scene caught my attention as I walked past Marin General (Marin Health) Hospital. I have done the same walk many times, and have never yet seen the same beautiful combination of water and background.
The golden hills around West Marin are filled with bucolic ranches and rural scenes. This Fall ranch scene is an Eastern view from downtown Tomales.
Anyone who has been to San Anselmo has been under the gaze of Mt. Baldy. Hiking to the top is an arduous climb for anyone who isn’t in great shape! My butt-kicking experience of that resulted in this image in the Springtime, with a spectacular view of Mt. Tam in the background.
Lundy’s Cafe has been a San Rafael fixture for decades. It is the last of its kind.. the long and narrow diner layout from yester-year. Although owned and managed by Hispanic folks, they still serve Irish breakfast.
I just had to capture this scene as I walked down Grant Ave. in Novato. I am told that the gentleman in the chair is always there, likely the owner protecting his fruit!
