Rush Creek
Looking east is this amazing estuary just north of Novato, Rush Creek reaches east to Highway 37 and the preserve is bordered by majestic oaks to the south and endless vistas looking north. Highway 101 cuts it off from Mount Burdell, otherwise the area would be home to big cats and much more deer. Moon rises to the east are the best in Marin. Take the 2-hour trail loop trail, easy and beautiful.
Big Rock Ridge
2024
24 x 24, oil on canvas
The painting is a late afternoon view with the light descending west off the Pacific. Hike up the “Chicken Shack” trail, and you’ll come to a crossroads with this view. Start from Big Rock off Lucas Valley or off the Novato side (in this view) —it’s a nice, challenging climb to the top. The distant view encompasses Hamilton and Burdell and the endless back bay towards Petaluma. The afternoon is getting cooler and the grass is cast cool.
