24 x 24, oil on canvas
The painting is a late afternoon view with the light descending west off the Pacific. Hike up the “Chicken Shack” trail, and you’ll come to a crossroads with this view. Start from Big Rock off Lucas Valley or off the Novato side (in this view) —it’s a nice, challenging climb to the top. The distant view encompasses Hamilton and Burdell and the endless back bay towards Petaluma. The afternoon is getting cooler and the grass is cast cool.
8X10 oil on prepared board. Mid-day sun in the hayfield.
10×11″ original colored pencil drawing with pastel background. Available at Marin Society of Artists Gallery
Handmade apoxie sculpt face (painted with acrylic and pan pastels) with seed pod, preserved moss and twigs, holding a ceramic flower. Fun & quirky.
Handmade clay head (Jizo) with twine and paintbrush bristles placed atop a vintage Chinese paintbrush and cradling a skull.
Jizo is a beloved Bodhisattva found within many Buddhist traditions. Jizo is said to help us cross the threshold of death and loss and safely accompanies us through the ‘hell zones’ of deep suffering.
Jizo (‘Earth Womb’) is said to bring us the qualities of courage, fearlessness, and tenderness needed to enter into our experiences of grief and loss and to open our hearts to the mystery of life and death.
Money, ah, the abstract concept that fuels our capitalist dreams! It’s like Monopoly money, right? Just a bunch of colorful paper we all pretend has value. “Funny Money” takes a jab at this absurdity, with Rich Uncle Pennybags (you know, the Monopoly guy) always reaching out for more, just like the rest of us. It’s all a big game, folks! Just remember, in the end, we’re all winners and losers in this hilarious cash-fueled circus! LOL indeed!
