Imagine Love
24 x 24″
Inspired by the sea urchin and the need to paint something familiar. During lockdown the mandates for social distancing were daunting. I painted the urchins spines that protect the gonads of the animal inside which are the prized delicacy called uni in a manner that suggested social distancing. Representing how people were required to be safe by separation. I wrote about to imagine love that could keep us together during this alienating time. It still remains a choice to chose love over separation.
Mussel Family Reunion
oil on linen. 24 x 24″
Pacific blue mussels found along the coastal regions of the Pacific. I see a cosmos of the ocean on the surface of each shell. Many of these were observed in tide pools and on rocks during a negative low tide.
Spondylus
oil on canvas 32″ x 20″
A oil painting of a Spondylus shell found on the eastern Baja Peninsula. It was discovered during a recent trip taken in celebration of the 85th Anniversary of the historical expedition by John Steinbeck and Ed Ricketts in the 1940 Steinbeck novel Sea of Cortez where they record the experience of documenting the littoral of the tidal zones in the Sea of Cortez.
Farm to Fashion
oil on canvas 24 x24″
This works speaks to how fashion design is influenced by patterns found in nature. The artichoke gone to seed resembles the spines of an urchin which in turn give rise to the inspiration for the design of mule sandal.
Glowing earth tones cascade across a quiet valley, where light filters through trees and settles into a reflective stream. The landscape feels suspended between warmth and stillness, inviting contemplation and memory.
A serene meditation on space and softness, inviting the viewer to pause and breathe within shifting layers
