Contemplation #1 From the “How The West Was Won” series. 2021 by M Kosturos
Credit for the painting goes to Hermann Nitsch. It’s made with actual blood.
I discovered Hermann Nitsch’s work this year while watching a YouTube video profiling the 10 most influential living painters in 2021. His work is the most powerful, courageous and utterly disgusting artwork I have come across, ever. Seriously, this guy is deranged. However, the ritualistic way his paintings are made and that they are made with blood, make them perfect representations for the carnage that European invaders inflicted on millions of native Americans.
