Cassandra 15″x 9″x10″, Ed. 20
In Greek Mythology, Cassandra was the daughter of the king of Troy.
Her rejection of the advances of Apollo caused her to be cursed by him, with becoming a seer whose prophecies were always true but never believed.
My Cassandra has a far seeing, plaintive look in her eyes, perhaps contemplating the thought of Greeks bearing gifts such as the wooden horse,
which lost the Trojan War for her father.
The title came from Taylor Swift’s manifesto of joy when leaning into your own beat, regardless of what other voices have to say. To me, the song popping into my mind in the studio was a reminder to ignore the inner critic’s voice and follow an unusual pull to yellow and dancing splashes of black.

In the wake of the Sandy Hook massacre, the NRA publicly stated that the remedy to senseless shootings is to arm the citizenry further and to post armed guards on campuses. Mother’s Militia, honors the victims of gun violence, demonstrates the ignorance of increasing gum accessibility and encourages the viewers to take action by pressuring our legislators to pass stricter gun control laws.
Homage to a great man who left a lasting impression on thousands of his Obstetrical patients and all who knew him as a quiet, quirky, deep thinking cowboy.

This piece addresses the sensitive subject of child sexual abuse. Creating it allowed me to excise the irrational shame and guilt that a child victim feels about the abuse.1 in 5 girls and 1 in 20 boys experience sexual abuse and 93% of these victims know the abuser who is usually a trusted friend or family member. I kept my true emotions stuffed inside for 39 years due to the social norms of the 60’s. Fortunately, now victims are recognized and can seek professional support and criminal prosecution of the perpetrator.
