About The Artist
A photograph, the way light falls across the bed in the morning, a restless mind, these are often the prompts that nudge me into the studio to work on a painting. After I’ve put the first strokes of color on the canvas, I spend days, weeks, even months, trying to capture what I imagined when I started. I use space, line, color and balance to further refine a painting. Immersion in the process is a joy, though sometimes a confounding one.
While my process is often driven by impulsivity, with minimal pre-planning, I dedicate extensive time to editing and revising. I embrace risks and the unexpected discoveries that arise from working without a predetermined outcome. In my experience, the most valuable artistic expression often comes from relinquishing control.
This spontaneous approach to subject matter, combined with a variety of tools and mediums, contributes to the diversity of my art. I work with acrylics, oils, paper, ink, watercolors, and pastels. I often incorporate sanding into my process. Collage frequently plays a role. The finished work might be a landscape, portrait, and or a still life. Or an abstract with no subject matter other than what you happen to find, think or feel.
The final cut of my explorations with light and shadow, color and line, mixed and conventional media is represented here. There are others waiting to be finished. Please inquire if you are interested.
In the 80’s, I studied art in Texas as an undergraduate. Currently, I take classes in the Bay Area studying with Tami Tsark, Diane Williams and Chuck Potter, among others.
