About The Artist
My art encompasses a diverse range of subjects, from cows, flowers, and birds to still lifes, landscapes, portraits, and abstracts. My process is driven by impulsivity, with minimal pre-planning. While that may sound rash or impetuous, it adds originality and energy to my work. I dedicate extensive time to editing and revising, embracing risks and the unexpected discoveries that arise from working without a predetermined outcome.
I rarely consider a painting a failure, but rather a puzzle to be solved. The challenge of untangling these “knots,” however time-consuming, fuels my exploration of the craft and ultimately inspires future work.
This spontaneous approach to subject matter, combined with a variety of tools and mediums, likely contributes to the diversity of my art. I work with acrylics, oils, cold wax, paper, ink, watercolors, and pastels, often incorporating sanding into my process. Like my other techniques, sanding introduces an element of chance. Collage, another unpredictable and versatile medium, frequently plays a role in my pieces.
In the 80’s, I studied art in Texas as an undergraduate. Currently, I take classes in the Bay Area studying with Tami Tsark, Diane Williams and Chuck Potter, among others.
