About The Artist
Artist Statement
River’s artwork aspires to provide the viewer with a fresh perspective that inspires contemplation on topics of contemporary social concern.
They use satire, juxtaposition, and unconventional aesthetics to give viewers new access points to controversial topics often obstructed by intense emotion and extreme opinions.
Current topics of interest include exploring the unexamined assumptions underlying the concept of gender in American culture. Exploring the implicit meaning Americans project onto the white picket fence.
Born in 1971 in San Francisco, River graduated from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1997. Her concept-driven mixed-media pieces and site-specific installations have been shown in New York, Stuttgart, Maastricht, and San Francisco.
I made a lot of art for exhibition in the 90’s until I burned out. I’m thrilled to be creating again! – 2021
