About The Artist
With this exhibition I’d like to showcase some of the paintings I created since January 2020, during the time of Covid 19 lockdown. In past, I created some portraits and the images I preferred most were landscapes and visuals of flowers. After I moved to California and Marin County in 2016, I was inspired and influenced by more abstract art and I continue moving in that direction.
Currently I’m working on a series of paintings originally inspired by Northern Lights, nature’s light show, a beautiful display of color and shapes. This series represents an important step to more abstract expressionism in my approach to art.
I hope the viewers will be excited by selection of colors and they’ll be drawn in by free flowing shapes and over all harmony of the painting.
While in school, I studied art history for 9 years. I’m very fond of impressionism, fauvism, expressionism and abstract expressionism.
I spent my formative years in former Czechoslovakia. I studied painting at the School of Art and Design in Uherske Hradiste, Czechoslovakia. After graduating I continued my studies at the University of F. Palacky in Olomouc, where I majored in Art and Czech literature. In 1972 I emigrated to USA. I spent my professional life as an art director at various well known New York City ad agencies, both consumer and pharmaceutical. A few years ago I returned to painting. I found my new home in California. Inspired by Californian sun and lively art culture, I am following a new path to more creative freedom of abstract expression. I participated in numerous exhibitions in New York and San Francisco area. I subscribe to Henri Matisse’s belief that art should be like an easy chair–feast for the eyes and rest for the soul.
