About The Artist
The search for clues from which to build an artwork is not unlike an undercover treasure hunt. This quest is my constant pursuit. My favorite ideas show up hiding in plain sight: the colors and shapes in an old donut shop, the silhouette of a disused factory, a near vacant bus station at dusk. I give keen consideration to mood, atmosphere and geometry.
My pieces begin in various ways: onsite painting, sketches, notes, photography. Paintings are completed in oil color given its unparalleled depth, history and willingness. The goal is to conjure up a little magic reminiscent of a forgotten world.
As a textile designer I produced and sold a line of hand block printed household goods. After pursuing printmaking of single multicolor images in wood and linocut I revisited my childhood interest in oil painting. It was a thrill to finally get the look I was seeking. Following years of formal art and painting study at The Chelsea College of Art, London and AAU, San Francisco as well as independent study with Spanish painter Carlos San Millan at times I feel I’m just getting started.
