John Baker grew up on the island of Hawaii and the coast of California, shaping a lifelong connection to the ocean and the outdoors. An educator for over 20 years, he holds a master’s degree in literature. A hands-on learner at heart, he believes understanding comes best through doing, and approaches painting as a process of learning as well as expression. When not working or creating, he can be found surfing, hiking, free-diving, fishing, or sailing. He finds constant inspiration in the natural beauty of Marin and the rich cultural life of the Bay Area.
