About The Artist
For several years, my work has centered on the ocean, inspired by a desire to foster conservation and reconnect with the natural world. This series emerged after living in Hawaii, where I experienced both the joy of the sea’s beauty and the sorrow of witnessing its fragile ecosystems in decline.
In a time marked by collective trauma—pandemic, climate crisis, social unrest—I return to the shoreline, a space of renewal where wind, tide, and light offer moments of peace and joy. These rhythms mirror our own impermanence and invite reflection.
Blending my meditation practice with portraiture, I explore the happiness that arises when we surrender to the present. At the water’s edge, we’re offered a chance to reset and to feel our place in nature..
I hope these paintings help viewers tune into the unseen and ephemeral—deepening their presence and nurturing a renewed reverence for life on Earth.
Janey was born in Beaumont, Texas, where childhood visits to the Gulf Coast with her mother’s family continue to shape her artistic vision.
Though offered an art scholarship, she chose to earn a BS degree in Mathematics at Lamar University, with minors in Art and Sociology—balancing creative passion with practical concerns. This blend led to a vibrant career in interactive design, working with clients like Apple, the George Lucas Educational Foundation, Stanford University, and the Grateful Dead, while continuing her art education at the San Francisco Art Institute, UC Berkeley, and College of Marin.
Her award-winning paintings are held in collections across the U.S. and abroad. She has been an Artist in Residence at Kriti Gallery in India and has shown solo at the Maturango Museum and Marin Museum of Contemporary Art. Her commissioned pieces appear in spaces such as Kaiser Permanente, Sutter Health, and Bodega Bay Lodge.
Janey lives in the San Francisco Bay Area and works from her studio in San Rafael, California.
