As a child, Jane was encouraged to express herself through the language of art. Her father was an architect from Berkeley, her mother an english major and artist and her step father was the Poet Laureate and Painter, Lawrence Ferlinghetti.

Jane studied at the Academy of Art and Art Institute in San Francisco and spent 10 years as a Designer and Multimedia Director before returning to school to become an Art Therapist.

In 2016, Jane made the decision to study art full time with workshops, mentorships and academics at the Florence Academy of Art and the Angel Academy of Art in Florence, Italy.

In 2018, Jane was inspired by a childhood friend to capture the essence of her old neighborhood in San Francisco. Over a six-week period, Jane created over 30 original alla prima style oil paintings for a series called, ‘North Beach in S.F’. The paintings were well received and shown at a local gallery on Grant Street, a few favorite cafes and ended up in a USA Today article and Solo Art Walk video tour.

In 2019, Jane formed the Marin Plein Air: Urban and Landscape Drawing and Painting Meetup group in Marin County as a free collective to encourage local artists to paint.

In March 2020, Jane was selected as one of the participating artists for the 18th Annual Sonoma Plein Air Festival (September  2020-2021). “I am truly grateful for the opportunity to grow and evolve as a landscape artist and to join such an amazing community of dedicated plein air painters. Thank you Sonoma Plein Air!”

And in January of 2021, Jane opened the FARLEY Gallery & Studio in Sausalito as a result of painting so much during the pandemic that her home began overflowing with paintings! For more information about painting commissions or to visit Jane in her studio, please call or email her directly.
