About The Artist

Artist Statement

Fluid States is a reflection of how I have come to understand process, not as something linear or controlled, but as something lived, felt, and continually reshaped. Over the past six years, I have created more than 400 works, each one representing a moment in time. These pieces were never meant to stand alone. Instead, they became fragments of a larger unfolding. Through revisiting, layering, and collaging them into new compositions, I began to see transformation not as an outcome, but as the work itself.

My practice begins outside the studio. On walks, I collect oak galls, small
and often overlooked forms created through a symbiotic relationship between tree and insect. When combined with iron, they become ink, a material historically used to document human experience. The gall, once a site of incubation and disruption, becomes something enduring. In the same way, I experience the creative process as an alchemy, where tension, imperfection, and even decay can give rise to something cohesive and alive.

Much of this work is guided by the idea of flow. There is a point in the
process where intention softens and the work begins to move on its own terms. Ink travels across the surface, responding to gravity, water, and time. I work with that movement rather than against it. The introduction of soap and bubbles expanded this relationship. Delicate forms pressed onto paper leave behind fleeting, ghostlike impressions, a record of breath and motion—something temporary made visible.

I am not trying to force meaning into these pieces. Instead, I am learning
to recognize it as it emerges. Flow, to me, is not just about immersion, it is about balance—the space between control and surrender, between structure and spontaneity. A piece feels complete not when it is perfected, but when it holds that balance. Even then, it remains open, something that can be received, interpreted, and felt by someone else.

Fluid States is ultimately about transformation, both internal and external. It
reflects the cycles we all move through, including creation, fragmentation, and renewal. My hope is that within these works, others can find something familiar, an echo of their own process and their own movement through change, and in that, experience a sense of connection.

Biography

Drew Frazier is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores transformation, process, and the quiet intelligence of materials. Over the past five years, his artistic practice has centered on ink-making, collage, and flow-based mark making, drawing inspiration from natural cycles of growth, decay, and renewal. His work reflects a deep curiosity about how simple gestures evolve into complex forms and how fragments can be reassembled into new, coherent narratives.

Alongside his life as an artist, Drew spent over a decade working as a fine dining chef, an experience that deeply shaped his relationship to process, discipline, and improvisation. The kitchen—much like the studio—became a place where structure and intuition learned to coexist.

Drew is currently a practicing psychotherapist, where his attention to emotional process, presence, and human resilience continues to inform his creative work. Both his clinical and artistic practices are grounded in an interest in flow, integration, and the ways meaning emerges through engagement rather than control.

Outside of his professional life, Drew enjoys baseball and spending time outdoors adventuring. He currently lives with his girlfriend, Liz, and their cat, Porty, finding balance and inspiration in shared experiences, creativity, and everyday life.
