About The Artist
I began my journey into art as a photographer, growing up on the East Coast. Over time, my interests shifted away from capturing reality and have moved toward a more metaphorical expression of what I see as beauty and impermanence. While much of my work is photography based, I use techniques such as hand-coloring and gold leafing to add depth and tonality. Choice of paper is also very important to me, and most of my work is printed on Japanese wash papers or translucent vellum. Addition of paint and graphite adds detail and structure.
I’ve developed techniques largely as a self-taught artist, but really I believe there is no such thing as purely self-taught. I’ve spent many hours in the company of artists who have mastered various methods and generously imparted their knowledge to me.
Dana Christensen is a California-based visual artist, working in photography and multimedia.
She grew up on the East Coast where she obtained a Ph.D in Psychology and went on to a career in advertising in NY and San Francisco.
Dana quit the corporate world in 2017 to devote full time to art. She is largely self-taught but has spent many hours under the guidance of renowned artists who have generously imparted their knowledge of techniques and processes. Her current interest is to reveal both the beauty and fragility of the natural world.
