Memory of a Past Winter
$500
16 x 16 inches
Acrylic with mixed media on wood panel
The overall mood of this piece is quiet and contemplative, yet the heavy texture and vertical drips give it a slightly raw, elemental quality. You can almost feel the cold winter day depicted in the scene.
The painting is divided into distinct zones of color that suggest a fragmented, semi-abstracted view of a landscape. There is the dominant blue and white which is contrasted with a dark horizontal band resembling a shadow. This splits the composition, adding depth. An earthy toned rectangular shape provides a grounded focal point against the cooler surrounding colors. Several thin, vertical lines of pale blue paint drip from the top of the canvas, suggesting rain, melting ice, or trees. The surface has been built up and scraped back several times revealing previous layers.
