Apollo is intent on Daphne. She flees him and as he begins to close in on her, she prays to the gods to save her. They turn her into a laurel tree.
This piece was made with small tessera (tiles). This is an ancient technique in which tiles or glass pieces are arranged to create a picture.
The pieces, individually, stand on their own, but in aggregate, they create patterns and movements which create engaging rhythms across the canvas.
Each piece has a quality that reflects light in a certain way. Thus the work shimmers and glows .
