Climbing Roses
16 x 20
Mixed Media – Acrylic on Wood Panel
As a gardener and an artist, I like the lush, rich colors of roses set against their green leaves. This painting celebrates the color and looseness of a wild, overgrown garden. In filling the frame entirely with blossoms, the viewer is immersed in the experience..
The paint is applied in short strokes that have a layered translucency which captures the delicate quality of petals. The dappled light portrayed in the painting feels as though the sun is hitting the tops of the flowers, creating a shimmering, almost vibrating effect. The dark greens and teals at the bottom and interspersed throughout provide contrast to the pinks and sunny yellows.
