This image of a figure in a kimono combines collage and acrylic paint to render an expressive and energetic composition. Bright yellows dominate large areas contrasted by pinks with ribbons of blue, green and red. The use of both transparent and saturated colors adds depth and visual interest.
The painting’s main composition was quickly rendered but the finished painting took more than a year to find it’s final form. I had thought to refer to the tattoo like shapes on the face and hands when I was naming the piece but I kept summoning up Groucho Marx singing “Lydia, the Tattoed Lady.’
