The 60×44″ oil painting was created after 9/11 in 2002. The poem on the bottom written in gold: “No one had a better mentor, in shock of smoke, in tragedy or attack. To be taught, to take the lesson, when towers cracked, just there, in view. To take you chair, as model, your method, mine. To stare forward, arms still at your sides for hours”-NMH
This painting seems even more relevant to me now with the Federal Government being dismantled by the current administration. Perhaps a strategy going forward is to remember the strength of all the people coming together, this time to save our Democracy…
Included in the MOS show at the Marin Community Foundation until May 23. Brought forward from my own personal collection. The image of the painting is also featured in the book, “The Chairs”, poems by N.M. Hoffman in collaboration with my series of chair drawings and paintings.
