[ALTERED BOOK: Anselm Kiefer (Venezia Contemporaneo) by Anselm Kiefer, ©1997 Charta.]
My copy of this book called Anselm Kiefer was water-damaged. Kiefer was born in 1945 during the end of World War II. His work hits my heart so strongly that it brings tears to my eyes every time I see his work in SFMOMA (our Museum of Modern Art). He is a dark, brilliant artist. In this damaged book, I found miraculously untouched pages of an art piece titled “Buch mit Flügeln, 1992,” which means: Book with Wings. I saw his feeling of HOPE and I decided to work on these pages. I named this altered piece Survival.
