MOS Introduces New Executive Director
We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Kina Lamblin to Executive Director of Marin Open Studios. Kina comes to us with a unique blend of artistic passion, non-profit management and fundraising experience. Born to artistic parents – her father a musician and her mother a painter –Kina is devoted to her own artistic work as a sculptor.
“The arts are essential to our world, and Marin benefits from a vibrant arts community that I’m eager to help foster,” Kina said. Many of our community will have the opportunity to meet Kina at the Open Reception at the Holiday Showcase on November 16 at Marin Art & Garden Center.
As co-founder and board member of the Bay Area Urban Debate League, a non-profit for high school students, Kina knows firsthand what it takes to get a program going from the ground up. She helped create a novel fundraising effort among legal firms that keeps this non-profit on solid footing. She brings experience in board governance, grant writing and volunteer engagement.
Early in her work life Kina earned a law degree and worked for Bay Area law firms. A graduate from UC Berkeley for her undergraduate degree, Kina has kept her commitment to her own artistic development through studies at Art Institute of Chicago and the San Francisco Art Institute.
“I admire what Kay Carlson has done leading MOS, and I’m looking forward to working closely with her to ensure a seamless transition,” Kina said.

Kay Carlson Maps Her Future
“Although I announced my plans to step down from day-to-day management of MOS, I’m not going anywhere!” Kay said. She will work with Kina through this next season, and help fundraise going forward. When her last day as ED is officially done at the end of December, Kay will become an Emeritus member of MOS Board of Directors and senior advisor.
“I’m looking forward to devoting more of my time to painting. Aside from my studio at the ICB
Building in Sausalito, I’ll be a participating artist in Open Studios.”
Kay also enjoys mentoring emerging artists and sharing her wisdom to give others a leg up.
One of her key messages is to maintain your own mailing list of buyers and studio visitors, and keep in touch with them. “I recently had two collectors of my work come back to me a decade later for commissions. I find previous buyers of my paintings are often the most enthusiastic ones for new work,” Kay advises.
“I want to thank every one of the amazing people in the community of Marin who have helped mentor support our artists, including the former Executive Director of the Marin Art Council, Jeanne Bogardus and our founding patron Peggy Haas.”
Please join us in welcoming Kina and extending heartfelt gratitude to Kay for all she’s done leading MOS.
