About The Artist
Whether painting or working in ceramics, I tend to work in series, creating a dialogue between pieces through color, composition, and texture. Filtering my emotional and visual experiences—both conscious and unconscious—my process is intuitive, spontaneous, and experimental, quietly reflecting, revisiting, and reshaping until I reach that final yes.
Helen Werngren is an abstract painter and ceramic artist, born and raised in Sweden. She made the United States her home in the mid-1990s, eventually settling in California after living in Colorado and on the East Coast. Helen’s work has been shown nationally and internationally. She works from Studio 126 at the ICB ART building in Sausalito, alongside her dog, Albert.
Drawn to color, Helen’s paintings are playful, spirited explorations that respond freely to the world around her.
In clay, she hand-builds sculptural, organically shaped vessels, often incorporating her grandmother’s intricate crochet work delicately embedding the patterns into the body of the clay.
