About The Artist
In my work, I use the visual language of maps to highlight the ways in which economic opportunity is shaped by geography. I am drawn to the rich colors and patterns that emerge in these maps, which are based primarily on the Census Bureau’s Opportunity Atlas project. Ultimately, my hope is that my art will inspire viewers to consider the complex and often-invisible forces that shape economic opportunity in our society, and to think about what can be done to create more equitable and inclusive communities for all.
Susan has completed coursework at UC Berkeley Extension and College of Marin, and has studied with artists such as Donald Bradford, Christian Fagerlund, Tim Horn, Felicia Forte and Kay Carlson. She holds a BA in Economics from Rollins College and an MBA in finance from the Wharton School.
