About The Artist

Artist Statement

I paint what moves me. Whether it’s a face or a figure, I attempt to capture the emotion within me when I paint it. My current work features portraits of pop culture icons but I also do commissioned works, figures, and more. I’m at my most vulnerable but most empowered when I create. I paint to music and it plays a large part in my work. The marks and strokes may be made with brushes or palette knives and blur the line between real and abstract. My work incorporates gesture and texture. What comes out on the canvas or board are the physical expressions of what I’m feeling.

Biography

Based in her Marin County studio, this self-taught GenX expressionist has been creating since childhood. Raised in the Midwest by an artist father, Shaney Fago brings a storyteller’s eye to the canvas, informed by a Master’s in Journalism and a career in marketing. Since shifting focus to art five years ago, she has developed a signature style defined by bold colors and mixed media. Her work blends lifelong creative intuition with a modern, textured, expressionist edge. Shaney Fago has collectors throughout the United States and the United Kingdom and her work has been exhibited at Gallery Sausalito, KNK Contemporary Gallery in San Francisco, and the Harvey Milk Center for the Arts in San Francisco.
