About The Artist
Marjorie Antaki Matthews’ artistic style takes much from impressionism. While she works primarily in oil, she enjoys experimenting in other mediums such as acrylic, gouache and pastels. Much of her work is done in plein air although she also enjoys still life studio work. Even when at home in her studio, Marjorie often takes her easel outside to work in nature. Years of living near mountain lakes and the ocean have solidified Marjorie’s fondness for painting water, which appears in much of her artwork.
Marjorie Antaki Matthews is a Marin County native, currently living in the San Geronimo Valley. Although born here, Marjorie spent her formative years in Switzerland, where she was trained in retail window design and display. Her fondness for impressionism and post impressionism began as a child when she first wrote a report on the French post impressionist Maurice Utrillo.
Painting provides Marjorie with a way to express her creativity and has become her sanctuary and creative outlet, while giving her a connection to nature, while providing an unlimited source of inspiration.
