About The Artist
I was born in the vibrant heart of Mexico City and now live and work in Northern California. As a bilingual and bicultural visual artist, I weave lived experience across borders into each body of work I create. With a background in Graphic Design and Art History, I merge the structure of formal design with the emotional pull of narrative abstraction. Working primarily in mixed media and digital photography, my practice traces the shifting lines of identity, memory, and resilience.
My journey through cultural epicenters such as Mexico City and New York City has shaped the way I see the world—through a lens informed by that liminal space I inhabit, and the constant negotiation between displacement and belonging. Grounded in a deep belief in equity and social justice, I approach image-making as both inquiry and offering. I call my process concerted viewing: a dialogue between intention and intuition that invites viewers to slow down, enter the work, and locate their own stories within its layered terrain.
Each piece functions as a form of mapping—not of geography or borders as we know it , but of lived experience- an emotional Atlas. Through texture, symbolism, and digital layering, I construct visual cartographies that honor complexity, a sense of mystery and multiplicity, affirming belonging as something dynamic, relational, and continuously in the making.
Laura Jiménez Diecks is a visual artist and photographer whose love for imagery began in childhood in Mexico City. Her father, an avid photo enthusiast, taught her to look beyond first impressions—to find form, context, and emotion in every frame. That early lesson in visual perception shaped the way she sees the world and continues to influence her work today.
After obtaining a degree in graphic design and branding from the University of Houston, Laura built a creative career in New York City that bridged art, design, and storytelling. After years dedicated to social justice work, she has returned to her artistic calling, embracing photography and mixed media as ways to explore human connection, memory, and cultural identity.
Now a resident of Northern California , over the past 5 years, Laura’s work has been featured in several juried exhibitions as she has reestablished herself as a full-time artist. Her experience includes curating and developing visual narratives for clients in the media and communications industries—spanning broadcast, digital, and emerging online platforms.
Today, Laura continues to use her lens and design sensibility to tell stories that honor her roots and those of her community, weaving together the two worlds that define her—her life in her adopted home and the legacy of her ancestral past
