About The Artist
I received my first camera in 1953 when I was in second grade. Like many, in those days, the camera I got was a Kodak Brownie. The first time I remember using my camera was on a day away from school; we went on a Circle Tour around Manhattan. Perhaps that’s why I associate photography with “travel”.
Journeys around the world, and at home, provide me the opportunity to capture images and memories for posterity.
I’m drawn to details: natural, architectural, abstract & human. Fragments of everyday life, and moments in time captured in a “memory box” [referred to as an “image trap” by French photographer J. H. Lartigue] all add up to a documentation of my observations.
Joy received her B. A. in Art, Dean’s List, Honors Program Graduate, Cum Laude Dominican College (now Dominican University of California), San Rafael, CA 1993 as a “re-entry” student. She has been exhibiting her work for over 30 years and currently has a studio at Art Works Downtown in San Rafael. She has had many jobs over the years and is currently a Program Office with the Fenwick Foundation and is an Ambassador for FOREVER, which offers digitization and cloud storage for photos and documents, and photo gifts. As a “photo coach” she helps people get their photos organized and assists them with photo books and more.
She is involved with community organizations including Side by Side (Sunny Hills) (since 1971), Dominican University of California’s Women, Leadership & Philanthropy Council, and the Federation of San Rafael Neighborhoods. Joy’s priority is family and she is very interested in philanthropy, especially children & community issues, and the arts. She enjoys travel, photography, digital photo albums, printmaking, painting, broken-tile mosaics, helping others with their photos, and gardening among other things.
