About The Artist
My painting technique morphs with each series- current direction gives rise to adaptions. Inspiration for an artwork may be drawn from my curiosity about a specific color palette as often as by an interest in some form, which is abstract. Primarily, I use oil and dry pigments mixed with encaustic medium. I sometimes begin by laying out a rough watercolor and graphite sketch directly on the wood panel. Hot encaustic is layered onto the sketch and then scraped in varying degrees to reveal bits of old layers and lines from the work history below. I also etch into the medium and deposit graphite or oil paint to create color separations. Layering with varying degrees of translucency creates a depth to the painting that is unique to the medium of encaustic. I use architectural tools and clay tools to scribe into the surface to clarify shapes and angles. This is my unique method of using encaustic, a history of discovery.
