About The Artist
Abstraction is a way for me to move out of my minds formulaic version of reality and step into mystery. To make that shift I must allow something that is larger than my known self to express itself—to slip through the cracks of my personality, which wants to perch, with a kind of dead satisfaction, on a plateau of knowing, and come closer to the presence of my being. When a painting works for me, it is because I have made that shift and have discovered a more comprehensive organic organization- one that aligns with the rhythms of the earth and sky.
Originally from a farm in Minnesota, I spent my teenage years in Los Angeles, attended college in San Francisco, ( S.F. A.I/ BA from New College, Mill Valley Independent Study Prog) then moved to New York City to ply my trade as an artist while also working in backdrop production. After 10 years full time in NYC I bought land in the piney hills of North Mississippi with a dream of setting up an artist residency. My arts residency was never realized but, instead, for 14 years I ran what had become a cattle ranch and retreat, sometimes running art programs, and living part time in NYC. I returned to the Bay Area in 2014. I currently live in Novato, with my Mississippi ranch dog Scramble. Besides painting I also keep chickens, a vegetable garden, teach art to adults and children and am writing a book about an artist from NYC who ends up cattle ranching in backwoods Mississippi..
