The Artist Hines

Artist Statement

The foundation for my work, whether representational or abstract, has always been beauty. Beauty is a state of mind that can be seen everywhere and in anything; the curve of a figure, the surface of an object or a bold stroke of color. Fluctuating between abstraction and realism allows me the full expression of my talents but also my philosophical and aesthetic expressions as well. Abstraction provides the opportunity for my artistic improvisation on canvas while representational painting allows me to focus on my love for academic traditional disciplines of painting. Both forums help embrace and express my personal philosophies on life and love.

Biography

The Artist Hines is a full-time artist originally from New York City. Hines is a self-taught artist and has thirty years of experience painting. He specializes in acrylics and his multiple styles including abstraction, still life, figurative, narratives, portraits and surrealism. He has exhibited widely and has won many awards. Hines has taught painting at Riley Street Art Supplies in San Rafael and at San Quentin State Prison as well as teaching private classes in the Bay Area. Hines is also an accomplished photographer, videographer and guitarist. Hines is a board member of MarinMOCA, where he has his art studio. He is a former treasurer and president of the Artist Guild of San Francisco, a member of The International Guild of Realism. Hines lives with his family in Novato CA.
