About The Artist
Creating art is a calling from within – a way to have a voice and express myself without the need for words.
Painting abstractly feels like rebelling against the perfectionism that consumed me during years of studying science and working as an editor. The freedom of creating new shapes, tearing paper, mixing colors, scraping, sanding, and painting over again makes me feel alive and present. The process is scientific and yet playful, a constant flow of experimental risks, expressive marks, and subtle adjustments.
When I am creating art, I find myself looking at my environment in a new light, noticing details, shapes, and colors with a familiar curiosity. I hope that my art might spark curiosity in you as well, and even bring an awareness of something within yourself that you don’t want to be silent or forgotten, the way it has awoken something in me.
Fawn Bailey is a mixed media artist in the Bay Area, working from Studio 101 in Sausalito’s historic Industrial Center Building (ICB/ART). Her art has been featured in New Visionary Magazine and in shows coast to coast, as well as internationally sold. Her work explores both the real and imagined, often blurring the lines between the actual and the abstract. Her use of line, color, and texture reveal an earthy expressionism that invite the viewer to linger in the places she creates.
A common thread throughout her work is the use of shapes derived from the natural world, including fungi, lichens, plants, and geological formations, inspired by her youth in the NY Catskills and her studies in the sciences. Her use of multiple media and varying techniques including monoprinting, collage, layering, and unique mark-making in her art imbue a feeling of sensual depth and a visually tactile experience that draw the viewer in for a closer look.
