About The Artist
I am known for my innovative, transordinary vessels made with every-day, common materials, using traditional basketry techniques in a non-traditional way. With a visual language, I tell a story by sculpting, weaving, assembling and coiling, interacting with material, pattern, color, design and texture. My use of re-purposed, re-contextualized materials is commentary on overconsumption of commercial goods, societal excess and throwaway consumerism. My work references regular life and our relationship with our urban environment.
I have been a sculptural basketry/ fiber artist for over 40 years. I grew up in NJ and have been living in CA since 1970. I have exhibited, taught, consulted and spoken about my artist career for many organizations. I owned and operated a retail business, Various & Sundries, for 35 years. I was President of The National Basketry Organization for 3 years. I now have an active art practice and a studio in Sausalito at the ICB.
