I didn’t start painting until I was 75years old. I was inspired by a British Isle painting contest on Britbox TV and learned that you aren’t usually born with an artistic talent but with hard work you can learn to paint and with more hard work you may get good at it. I finally decided to join Marin Open Studios, not because I am a very good artist, but hope to find focus and inspiration from other artists. I love talking to them in their studios and have gone to events to see them do their craft.

I have always found much pleasure with artistic ventures in my life, including gardening, decorating and using fabrics that I love in sewing special pieces. I started taking acrylic painting courses online and have for the past 1 1/2 years. Between these courses, the use of social media to be introduced to many artists, I have gradually found my style. I don’t know what to call it except I know I love very colorful scenes. My dream is to go to neighborhoods, especially in San Francisco and sit on a corner and draw the scene that I see. I am very much drawn to buildings and am currently taking some urban illustration classes. Some of these may include watercolor in the future.
I have been using acrylic because in starting to paint at my age, I feel it is a good medium to learn with. I use pens quite a bit in my final painting steps. I see myself painting for the rest of my life, however long that will be. Personally I feel that this new passion will extend my life.
