About The Artist
I have been making both landscape and figurative paintings. My own unlikely path to this creative life and the choices they have entailed, seem to surface metaphorically in both. The landscape pieces are imagery with thickets and bramble through the seasons, and sometimes what is growing in my garden. My figurative paintings began as observations on solitude, a necessary condition for creative work. Now they seem to be dissolving to accommodate a churning of the interior landscape, and in the process, integrating landscape elements. There are also small and large still-life paintings being worked out for resolution in the studio, as well as oil sketches and studies of masterworks. Drawings, large and small, as well as a few printmaking successes round out my portfolio as this time. Please visit my website deepening.net if you have a moment!
My fine art training has been almost exclusively at the College of Marin in Kentfield, CA. I studied there close to full time for a period of eight years, taking classes in drawing, painting, printmaking, art history and figure sculpture. I had the privilege of studying painting with Chester Arnold, and figure drawing with Tron Bykle. My work has been juried into several group shows in Marin and Sonoma counties, with the highest distinction being a piece selected by the de Young Museum in San Francisco in 2020. My first solo show was in 2016. In addition to working in my studio, I currently teach two drawing classes at the College of Marin through their Community Education division.
