About The Artist

Artist Statement

I was deeply moved by several things very early in my life; color, beauty, horses and

watching my mother paint. I have considered these influences over many decades

and realize that they stir something very significant, deep within me. As I work in

my studio and on location and as I thoughtfully consider these influences, I find that

I am able to create artwork that moves others in a way that is distinct and uplifting.

Art at its best, has the power to move and change others, to remind us of what is

possible and exhibit what we are capable of achieving as human beings, sharing this

time and place. Art has the power to inspire us, open our hearts, shape our views

and lift our thoughts. As the years gather behind me, my own work has become less

about working from a place of thinking and producing and more about working

from a place of feeling, sharing and understanding.

Biography

Carol Peek is a native Californian who grew up drawing and riding horses from the pacific coast through the Sierra Nevada mountains. Her mother was her biggest inspiration, an artist herself, encouraging Carol to follow her dream of becoming a professional artist. Spending so much of her early years in nature on horseback influenced her deep appreciation of the natural world. Carol began her education at ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, CA. She started her career as a professional artist in 1987 and her desire for more knowledge brought her to the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA to earn a Master’s Degree in Fine Art Painting in 2021. Her interests in art are focused on color and the natural world and the animals that inhabit it.

In her mature career phase, Carol is interested in more than meets the eye, integrating sacred geometric armatures in her work which offer deeply felt harmonious design. When a painting calls for it, she paints with a limited color palette to create moving color harmonies which holds the painting in an intimate color space.

Carol began teaching in 2010 in her studio as well as a 2 year stint teaching at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Her classes range from academic basics, plein air landscape painting, and creative explorations in paint and non-objective imagery. All of this to inform the students about possibilities and give them a greater understanding of their materials. Carol admits that teaching is a joy and a wonderful way to give back some of what she has gained throughout her years of being actively engaged in education and a creative life.

Galleries in San Francisco and New York City have represented her work and numerous one woman and museum group shows fill her resume. A participant in the Art in Embassies Program, her work has been shown as far away as Luxembourg and Azerbaijan. Collectors include Art Garfunkel, Joseph Feinnes, Kit and Arnold Palmer and the Ritz Carlton Hotel.
