About The Artist
Being an old school photographer, having a darkroom for 27 years, I have a rule that if I couldn’t do it in the darkroom I won’t do it in Photoshop. I believe in maintaining the integrity of the medium. I do all my own printing, matting and framing so I have total control over the final print. My goal is to have the viewer feel like they are standing next to me when I was taking the image and to motivate people to get out and go the places that they see in the photographs.
I purchased my first Nikon camera in 1971 and have been a serious photographer ever since. I moved to the Bay Area month after college graduation in 1972 and got a job doing portraiture and weddings in SF. after a few weddings I decided that I was a nature photographer not a portrait guy. then I moved to Santa Rosa in 1973 and took a job as a darkroom assistant for. a portrait photographer there. But at $2.50/hour with a college degree, I decided to move away from professional photography to earn enough money, so that eventually I could go back to full time photography, which I did in 2001. Knowing that a change was coming I started producing the Marin Visions calendar in 1996, which I still produce to this day. In 2001 I started doing art festivals all over the Bay Area up until the 2008 recession that cut into print sales by 75% and made art festivals not viable for me. then in 2013, after 3 years at Aurora studios in San Rafael, I moved into ArtWorks Downtown in San Rafael where I kept my studio until the pandemic hit in 2020 and i decided to close it. Recently I came out with the Marin Visions book, a high quality coffee table book with over 200 pages of Marin images from my calendar. I still sell Limited Edition framed prints and Note cards through my website – http://www.aspimages.com

Education
Took one photography class in college to learn how to use a darkroom. I’ve studied with or shot with some world renown photographers, Galen Rowell, Chris Burkett, Lou DeSario, Lewis Kemper and Bill Neill among others. Outside of that, I’ve spent over 50 years learning my craft including 27 years in the darkroom and hundreds of thousands images captured to learn from.
