The Lark Theater Larkspur CA. I’m drawn to this building the way light changes the large masses the rectangles the shadows cast the yellows and oranges in bright sun light and the blues and coolness under cloud cover. This is my second painting of the Lark and I imagine at least one more. I’m a fan of the writings of Cormac McCarthy. This building and the avenue disappearing into the forest at the rise near the library are particularly intriguing and bring to my mind some mysterious unseen event. This piece represents numerous visits to the site during day and night and in the rain. As with most of my paintings much has been altered from the original scenes. I am particularly drawn to strong geometries night rain shadows and deeper warmer colors. My wife an art history major calls my paintings expressionistic realism. The deer was in our driveway in San Rafael.
