“The Green Man” depicts the spirit of the forest and symbolizes life that is found in the natural plant world. From the sprouting of new growth, the maturation of plants from flower to seed and the drying and sloughing off of the husk parallels my creative process. He is targeted for plunder, through the clearing of forests and the destruction of habitat. We are reliant on plants for shelter, food and medicines. Water is drawn up through the roots of plants and stored in their cells. Plants absorb carbon dioxide and give us back some of that oxygen, making earths atmosphere possible. He wears a human mask to convey our parallel peril.
