A Marin County artist for the past 34 years, Virginia was formerly a native San Franciscan who became a Foreign Service wife and mother, amd who lived in 31 houses at home and abroad. She first exhibited her work in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1970 and has been in exhibitions ever since. Painting images that portray simple themes, such as feelings of family in foreign places, and yearning for a safe place, has given her work a sense of calm and yet sadness. Losing most of her sight five years ago, Virginia no longer paintsin acrylic and watercolors, as before. Virginia believes that not seeing has given her insight into having fun with her work. She now loves to “play” with materials she finds on her daily walks, and oil pastels, grasses from her garden, and photographs of family and friends. “My work is no longer work,” she says.
