My artistic process begins with laying a foundation in light and dark values and then using color in layers to further establish and refine images. While I have experimented with a variety of styles, color pallets and subjects, trees, water and birds have been predominant themes. My preference is to paint modern landscapes in saturated colors. I love natural world and Marin has so many opportunities to appreciate the artistry of mother nature. Having said that, my scenes are not specific to a particular setting allowing the viewer to be invited in to create their own narrative. In some paintings the appearance of a small bird (or a larger one as a central character) brings the landscape from the abstract to a moment in time. Another element seen in many works includes ponds, marshes, rivers or seas. This subject influenced by time, place and weather allows for numerous possibilities in how to achieve the desired effect. In the end… and the beginning, painting is a fun exploration.

I began exploring artistic endeavors in the last 10 years. After experimenting with Japanese flower arranging, pottery and drawing I fell in love with oil painting. I am thoroughly engaged with the lusciousness of moving the paint around the canvas.
