As an artist, my primary passion is the exploration of the human spirit in its journey toward truth. This passion has historically manifested in oil and water media paintings emphasizing figurative expression. After exploring meditative aspects of still life, the emotional undercurrents of landscape painting, and the spontaneous emotional, spiritual, and intuitive aspects of abstraction, my love for the figure has recently re-emerged. My current series explores the profound vulnerabilities in being human on the planet at this time.

I began making art in my mid 40's after an insistent message moved me to pursue this early dream. I left my academic position as a professor of nursing and moved to NYC where I enrolled at the Art Students League. After returning to California, my work became hospice nursing and painting, each feeding the other in remarkable ways. Then I met THE guy, married, and became a Tibetan buddhist. Martin is a photographer and a poet, and our life together has become a major collaborative effort as we each support and contribute to the other's art. This year, we are jointly doing Marin Open Studios, sharing our paintings, photography, books, and poetry with the public.
