Painting slows time and allows me to appreciate God's grace in everyday life. I love how painting - through almost a meditative-like depth of observation - takes me both closer to the subject and deeper into my own being, and ultimately improves the quality of my life. If my art also transports the viewer to a place of peace and beauty, then I've met my challenge and am thankful to be given that opportunity.
Susan, a Northern California native, paints still lifes and the land and surroundings she knows and loves. Having grown up in Marin, she finds solace exploring the timeless rolling hills and trails of her childhood, with her palette and easel in tow. She also spends time plein air painting in the open space surrounding her current home in Western Sonoma County.
Susan has undergraduate and graduate degrees from The University of California at Santa Cruz and San Francisco State University, with studies in Biology, Education, and Art. Creativity has always permeated both her professional and personal life; through painting, weaving, music, computer game design, and book publishing. Susan has continued her art studies with many well known artists, including Wolf Kahn, Randall Sexton, Ken Auster, Abbey Ryan, and Camille Przewodek. Her work has been exhibited throughout Sonoma and Marin County, with a current solo show at Balletto Vineyards and upcoming shows at Screamin Mimi's, Sebastopol Center for the Arts, Backstreet Gallery, and Art Trails Open Studios.
Susan is a member of the prestigious Oil Painters of America, California Art Club, and local Sonoma and Marin County Art Associations. She has served on numerous Art and Museum Boards and is an active promoter and supporter of the arts in her community. Susan works from both her studio in the SOFA Arts District in Santa Rosa and The ICB in Sausalito and feels blessed to continue creating in the magical place of her youth.
