FourSquared Alumni Invitational Exhibition
SquaredAlumni 2024 brings together six alumni from previous FourSquared exhibitions at Arc. Each artist will be exhibiting four works in a series.
In my series Everyday Sacred I celebrate the extraordinary in the ordinary … the magnificence of the mundane.
Isn’t a black and white image the most compelling? It reminds me of old photographs that have detail, subtlety, and soul. I paint portraits of commonplace, enduring objects: a light bulb, a baseball, a paper bag… in a finely nuanced monochrome palette. My paintings speak volumes quietly.
I try to honor these objects we see so often and rarely think about. As I paint I am in conversation with my subject about its role in my life. How has the light from that bulb allowed me to paint and navigate the world, how much joy does that rock bring when I pick it up on the beach, how much anticipation is there about what is in that paper bag?
These objects are timeless and bring me joy and I invite the viewer to savor them too. Please visit my website to see more.
