Introduction to Encaustic Monotypes Workshop
Begin the New Year learning a new, easy, fun, beautiful medium.
January 17th, 2026 – 11 am – 4 pm
This is a one-day introduction to the Encaustic Monotype process. It is available to all skill levels. We will cover the equipment, the tools, safety, and the variety of materials and papers. Each person will gain hands-on experience and will come away with finished work. All materials are provided.
Cost $200 plus $25.00 materials fee which covers all materials.
Location: Classroom building at Novato Art Center. 781 Hamilton Parkway, Novato.
The maximum number of students is 5 to allow for individual instruction.
We will cover:
-Equipment
-Variety of papers
-Color, texture, shape, and line.
-Monotype techniques
-Color layering
-Reductive methods
-Stencils
-Ways to display work
Encaustic Monotypes are created on a heated palette using encaustic color bars. The encaustic is then transferred to a variety of papers
Patricia Leeds has been working with encaustic for over 14 years and has shown her work in the Bay Area and nationally
