This multi-layered abstract was created over the course of two years. It explores the relationships between color, shape, and texture.
The dominant colors are warm, featuring bright oranges, yellows, reds, and some pinks which are contrasted with cooler blues and occasional greens. Significant areas of white or off-white act as negative space, providing breathing room and highlighting the colored areas, while black is used subtly, often as a rough outlines or within textural patterns. Despite the complexity, the balance of warm colors and white space keeps it from feeling overly heavy.
The composition is non-representational. Forms are fragmented, overlapping and irregularly shaped. There is no single focal point; instead the eye is drawn across the canvas. The painting utilizes mixed media including paper collage and plastic netting. There are patterned areas including grids and dots. The layering suggests depth and history, as if elements have been added, removed and rediscovered over time.
The painting is energetic and may invoke a sense of controlled chaos. Ultimately, I hope you’ll find it visually stimulating and complex.
