My abstract and representational work is a blend of the European influence of my early childhood and the colors, passion and folklore of Latin America, resulting in a unique, vibrant style. My commissioned portraits of pets and the human figure focus on the intrinsic expression particular to my subjects and their interrelationship. At present I am following my heart and have daringly branched out of my comfort zone to explore new and different paths. Letting both my brush and my imaginative spirit run free, I am creating new and uncensored expressions of myself allowing new colors and themes to emerge, much to my own surprise and delight.
I was born in New York City of Belgian and Dutch parents, educated in Canada, Chile, and graduated from l'Ecole des Beaux Arts de Genève, in Switzerland,
My summers were spent in Italy and France, drawng the architecture and people in small villages. From there, I relocated to Mexico, and lived in a remote tropical area on the pacific shore and that is where I discovered color, While raising my two children and returning to the US, I continued my studies at the California College of the Arts in Oakland, and the College of Marin, in Kentfield, CA
My surrealist and figurative paintings grew out of the European influences of my childhood, combined with the colors, passion, and folklore of Latin America.
My work has been exhibited at galleries and museums in California, and well as internationally. I had a solo exhibition at the Museum of Las Condes in Santiago, Chile, and was part of several group exhibitions in Paris, France, and Stockholm, Sweden.
I paint in oils acrylic and mixed media.
