Larry Gilbert Pahl

Mill Valley, CA

?Painting transports me into a spiritual realm where I exist in the present moment and where all things reveal their own unique beauty. My goal is to capture that experience so that it may be re-visited through the visual stimulus of my art again and again. I paint in the impressionist/colorist tradition because it enables me to enhance reality rather than just mimic it.

A Berkeley native, I have lived in Northern California all my life, and have been involved with visual art since my childhood. There were accomplished painters on both sides of my family, so my fascination with painting came early. After traveling around Europe and the States during the early seventies, I finally settled down on the Monterey Peninsula, started a family, and worked as a newspaper staff artist and magazine art director for nearly two decades .

Life became especially rewarding when I retired from the publishing industry and began to paint full-time. Having spent the last five years studying under Dorallen Davis and Jane Heaphy, both prominent Bay Area impressionists/colorists, I developed a passion for painting en plein air as well as figurative work and still life in the studio. I have recently begun to explore abstract expressionism and endeavor to express myself in as many ways as possible.
