Each year I watch my work develop in a new way while building on what I have learned in the past. Most of my inspiration comes from creating a world I wish to inhabit. I find peace and satisfaction in the pleasures of tea, walks, visits with friends, interactions of family. The changing light that comes from sun and shadow, fog, and seasons informs my artwork and this year that has been more of a conscious focus for me. In September I traveled to Maine and then to the Santa Barbara area. The comparisons of the paintings done on site from these trips were surprising to me and especially when I reviewed the paintings I had done from the Sea Ranch fog the previous year. The greens in Maine are almost acidic they are so green, the fog in Santa Barbara is warm, while the fog and greens in Sea Ranch are chilly, yet enveloping. The result has been a flurry of new paintings with warm southern California sun and fog with the accompanying beach activities that take place in that warm climate. As usual since I like to interpret one image from painting into printmaking I took some of the images to 3 plate aquatints. The result is pleasing, yet looks like a different environment because of the medium, and the way the colors mix with the overlay of colors. I've been painting for many years, and now am excited about learning printmaking too. The most recent pieces are 3 plate color aquatints.
